Drupal Association blog: Socialize at DrupalCon – Meet | Collaborate | Celebrate

Drupal CMS

Out of the many reasons people attend DrupalCons or conferences in general, networking seems to be one of the most popular motivations. Meeting new people and sharing similar experiences can make the entire experience worth your while.

In addition to all the learning opportunities, keynote presentations, and hands-on workshops you will find at DrupalCon Portland, you will also get to interact with like-minded people and make new friends! Take a peek into the planned events to promote socializing to compliment your DrupalCon experience.

Women in Drupal Luncheon

When: Wednesday, 27th April at 12p PST
Where: Room C120-121-122

As we inch towards a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world, women in tech are still underrepresented and make up for a small percentage of the entire workforce. This is especially true for women who have been further marginalized due to racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, classism, and other forms of discrimination.

There’s a long way to go to be a more balanced industry, but with a strong network and support system, that day is not too far away.

The Women in Drupal Luncheon is a dedicated program that addresses the challenges and needs of those who experience misogyny in our community. Anyone who identifies as a woman and/or feminine-of-center is welcome (cisgender, transgender, and/or non-binary)!

Make friends, network, share your stories over coffee and lunch. This is a closed event to those who RSVP. Sign up!

You could also host or join a Women in Drupal Birds of a Feather (BoF) group and organize a gathering at one of the receptions. Join the #womenindrupal Slack channel to get connected right away!

Birds of a Feather (BoF)

When: 25th (8am-12pm), 27th (2:30pm-5:30pm) and 28th April (2:30pm-5:30pm)
Where: Room C123

Are you looking for an informal, inclusive, collaborative space where you could share your interest with like-minded folks? At DrupalCon Portland, we encourage you to schedule a Birds of a Feather (BoF) gathering onsite!

BoFs are informal gatherings of small groups who wish to discuss a selected topic, collaboratively solve problems, exchange ideas, share best practices and make meaningful connections.

Check out the whiteboard on-site for your time slot if you have already submitted a topic. You can also schedule a BoF spur of the moment at the event itself! Simply add your BoF topic to the whiteboard on-site in an open time slot. Ad hoc sessions are encouraged and are reserved for you to grab! Click here to access the program schedule and add the BoF’s to your schedule.

Here are some examples of a BoF session:

Black Drupalists – Black Drupal Community members get together to connect and share experiences
Drupal in PDX – Drupal Community members local to Portland can get together and exchange details for collaboration after DrupalCon
Drupal Coffee Lovers – Passionate coffee enthusiasts that want to connect with other Drupalists who share their passion.
Breakout session BoF – Did you really enjoy a breakout session and want to keep talking about it with folks who attended? Schedule an Ad Hoc BoF!

Scholarship Breakfast

When: Monday 25th April at 8:30am to 9:30am PST
Where: Oregon Ballroom 204

DrupalCon offers opportunities to attend, learn and collaborate at the event in the form of Scholarships and Discover Drupal Programs.

The DrupalCon Scholarship program provides support to those who are traditionally underrepresented and who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend tech events for financial reasons.

The Discover Drupal Program is a 12-month scholarship and training program for the underrepresented. The initiative aims at unlocking opportunities for them, helping them learn about Drupal, get mentored, and also recruited.

The Scholarship Breakfast at DrupalCon Portland is an excellent opportunity for all scholarship recipients, Discover Drupal students, mentors, and donors to connect over breakfast! Also, learn from seasoned DrupalCon attendees about making the most of your conference experience.

This is a closed event for those who RSVPed.
